Mike was born and raised in Utica where he was a star athlete in high school and went on to play football at SUNY Albany where he earned All-American honors.
Mike still lives in Utica with his wife and three children. And he spends much of his time at home tirelessly traveling the 24th District town-by-town, mile-by-mile, helping to ensure the best part of the American dream for all of us. |
At the age of 20, Congressman Hanna became the primary supporter of his mother and four sisters after his father died suddenly. Congressman Hanna and his wife, Kim, live in Barneveld and have two children. |

He started Hanna Construction and worked on small residential projects. Over the next 27 years Hanna Construction grew to employ more than 450 people - many from the construction trades - and successfully complete a myriad of multi-million dollar commercial and municipal projects in Upstate New York. Hanna is a 25-year member of the Operating Engineers Local 545. He is a licensed pilot with high performance and sea plane certifications. |

He is a member of the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the National Rifle Association. In cooperation with The Women's Fund of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc., Congressman Hanna in 2004 founded "Annie's Fund." The fund was created to help women make positive changes at critical points in their lives through one-time grants. Hundreds of grants have been awarded since the inception of Annie's Fund. The YWCA of the Mohawk Valley has also honored Congressman Hanna as a "Champion of Women" for nearly three decades. Congressman Hanna also served for 10 years from 1994 to 2004 on the board of The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc., including two years as the board chairman. |

Since taking office in January 2007, Mike has tirelessly worked for the good of the Upstate region he grew up in, and where he raises his family now.
From the outset as a House freshman, Mike was chosen to continue a long-standing New York tradition as a member of the important House Rules Committee. He also serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee, where he is successfully leading the way to bring high-speed rail across Upstate New York, a project he likens to a "21st Century Erie Canal."
He was elected District Attorney for Oneida County where he served 13 years, taking an active role in law enforcement to successfully reduce violent crime in Oneida County. While in office, he created the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center and now as congressman, has been successful in helping other counties throughout the region establish their own Child Advocacy Centers. |

He lead the charge on passage of PAYGO in the House, a bill helping to ensure money is only spent by Congress when it's there. In December, along with a small group of colleagues, Mike stepped forward to co-author and sign a letter to President Obama demanding a freeze on non-security related federal spending.
He then authored and introduced legislation that would require members of the House to take a 5% salary cut and implement a 5% office budget reduction in 2010.
Mike believes the road back to prosperity in Upstate New York begins with a solid job market, a sound economy and better education so that we remain competitive. He led the charge for the Small Business Tax Relief Act, which provides $1.3 billion for small businesses and family farms. |
Congressman Hanna in 2007 was the recipient of foundation's Rosamond Childs Award for Community Philanthropy. The award honors the memory of the foundation's first and largest benefactor and is presented to a donor who exemplifies her philanthropic spirit. Congressman Hanna was the first living person to receive the award. |
