Eric was elected to the New York State Senate in 1998. He became Chair of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee after only two months in office, and launched a series of unprecedented challenges to incumbent Republican Senators in the 2000 elections. Eric was so effective that the Senate's conservative leadership--fearful of losing seats in marginal districts--was forced to abandon its long-standing opposition to many key progressive bills. Eric's efforts were critical in passing the Clinic Access Bill, Hate Crimes legislation, the Women's Health and Wellness Act, and a host of gun control, environmental and civil rights laws. |

As Attorney General, I would focus on two areas
(i) stopping widespread political corruption resulting from the dominance of the two major parties and practical exclusion of any other parties or challengers; as a third-party candidate, I have none of the baggage carried by Dan Donovan (Staten Island prosecutor and Republican nominee for NYS Attorney General) and Eric T. Schneiderman (NYS Senator and Senate Leader, who is unable to investigate his own involvement in the $60 billion Aqueduct casino scandal); instead, I can and would conduct a full and fair investigation of this $60 billion attempted giveaway as well as NYC Mayor Bloomberg's purchase of City Council support by slush fund payoffs to many of the 52 elected City Council members; and
(ii) enforcing the rights and creating opportunities for NYS voters and residents by assisting towns, villages, counties and cities in supporting their own residents and small businesses for the purpose of creating sustainable local economies, including a tuition-free equivalency college for area residents only (to motivate for and teach self-employment and small business, and to drive up land values), an area-wide payroll administrator (to make small-business hiring easier and less costly) and by local marketing to assist residents and small businesses to offer and sell their goods and services through low-cost local marketing (explained in my carlperson4NYAG.com website). |

I am (and always have been) a male, born in 1936 (making me 74 years old). I've been married for more than 30 years, to Lu Ann Horstman, and have a son. My home town is New York, New York, but I've also resided in Staten Island, White Plains, East Northport (Long Island), and Brooklyn. The only times I have lived outside of NYS is for a 3-year period when I was in the US Army (during which time I spent two years on Okinawa, in the Pacific) and 2 years in North Platte, Nebraska, when my father, a lawyer, decided to go back to his roots and establish a law practice in Nebraska. It didn't work out for him, and we moved back to New York. My father's mother was a pioneer, settling in Wauneta Nebraska during the late 1800's. One side of my mother's family came over on the Mayflower, or so I was told. Her father was a local justice of the peace in Rochester NH. |

JD, Harvard School of Law, 1982
BA, English/Asian Studies, Amherst College, 1977. |

I am a high school dropout (Northport High School, on my 16th birthday, 2 years before the rest of my class graduated). I spent one year doing very little, and then joined the US Army for 3 years, and was trained as a high speed radio operator (taking Morse Code at 25 words per minute, supposedly). Then, I got out of the Army 3 months early to attend Long Island University (Brooklyn), and 1-1/2 years later I ran for and became Student Council President, in a race where all candidates got equal exposure (unlike the current election, in which 3rd party candidates receive virtually no media exposure). I graduated in 2-1/2 years and went to Harvard Law School on a scholarship. I have an AB degree in political science and an LLb in law. I have not been active politically until 4 years ago when I tried to get the Green Party nomination for NYS AG (and failed by a few votes). I tried sports in high school (baseball and basketball) but was not very good and was cut very quickly. |

I have been a lawyer since 1962 and have had substantial experience in civil rights cases on behalf of victims of discrimination (age, religion, country of origin, disability, sex, sexual preference), but most of my cases have been commercial, including securities, antitrust, copyrights (and stolen ideas), trademarks, franchise terminations, employment terminations, and most recently I have been setting up a national law practice to defend against wrongful foreclosures, by defending foreclosure actions and in bringing wrongful foreclosure actions for homeowners in any state where they have lost their homes through wrongful foreclosure. If elected as Attorney General, I would seek to bar banks from using the NY Courts if they have been committing fraud on the NY Courts, by requiring them to give equitable relief (through appropriate loan modification agreements adjusted for lower property values and lower interest rates) before they can come back into the NY Courts. |

I was in the U.S. Army from July, 1953 through June 1956, achieving the highest rank of Specialist 3rd class (equivalent to corporal). I was put in for sergeant, but missed promotion because of my early release to attend college. I was a sharpshooter, and a member of my battalion commander's pistol team. I was honorably discharged. After attending 6 months of basic training, including 4 months of high speed radio operator school (in what was then known as Camp Gordon, Florida), I was shipped to Okinawa and functioned as a ship to shore radio operator and occasional substitute for secret operations on outlying islands. My duties were generally from midnight to 800 a.m., and because of this I was given special consideration (such as no extra duty, and a semi-private room shared with a sergeant). Every day I had to be trucked into the middle of a town known as Shimabuku to be in charge of the radio facilities at that place. |

For the past 4 years I've been trying to find a town or village to show how prosperity can be created for local residents and small businesses without any new statutes, stimulus funds or other grants. I found one town, City of Vermilion, Ohio, for which the Mayor (Jean Anderson) and I worked together for about one year (until she lost re-election) to try to set up the four needed reforms (i) town attorney general (which I became), (ii) tuition-free equivalency college for residents only (as to which we decided it would be easier to collect $2,000 in tuition instead of trying to raise the tuition through the town attorney general lawsuits); (iii) an area-wide payroll administrator (to make it easier and less costly for hiring employees); and (iv) a keyword, website-based program for marketing the goods and services of residents and small businesses to the 25-mile area (2,000 square miles) around the town or city. I have no activities in any other organizations or charities. |

I have drafted proposed legislation but have never held any political office. My favorite statutory proposal I call "The First 3 Are FREE!", which I tried unsuccessfully to give to Hilary Clinton. The proposed legislation would allow any small business person to hire up to 3 people and designate them as "independent contractors" to avoid withholding and compliance with other employer-type requirements. This would induce millions of small businesses and self employed persons to hire and create 10,000,000 jobs in a few months. But, it is clear to me that the persons controlling politics and politicians in the U.S. are not looking for any solutions. They are looking to continue to loot the country and its middle class of their wealth, and make the U.S. another 3rd world country. My idea # (iii) for reform, the Area-Wide Payroll Administrator is a practical way to implement the idea without the need for any new statute. In fact, most of my ideas require no new statutes. |

In the Senate, he had been a leader in efforts to pass gun control, pro-choice and environmental legislation, to reform the Rockefeller Drug Laws, raise the minimum wage, and to provide universal health care for all New Yorkers. |

I try to find solutions to problems, and have figured out how the residents and small businesses in any town, village or small city can create prosperity for themselves, without any new statutes or federal or state funding. Also, I have been granted a patent on latitude and longitude as applied to a global positioning system device which doesn't require triangulation with any satellites; I'm applying for a patent on a non-toxic system for eliminating bedbugs. I have authored various books including one published by Doubleday that sold 60,000 hardcover copies; 3 books I wrote during a 2-month period and are available for free download on my internet websites (including a book explaining that the cost of higher education has grown so high that the returns for the more costly educations are less than the cost, and should be avoided. I have more than 100 websites, most of which are available through or on lawmall.com |
