Congressman John R. "Randy" Kuhl, Jr. is a native and lifelong resident of the Southern Tier-Western New York region residing in Steuben County. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004 and now represents the 29th Congressional District of New York, which includes parts of eight counties in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes region, and the Southern suburbs of Rochester, New York.
Randy was sworn in to the 109th Congress on January 4, 2005. As a freshman Member of Congress, he serves on three key House Committees: Transportation and Infrastructure, where he is Vice Chair of the Aviation Subcommittee and a member of the Economic Development Subcommittee; Agriculture, where he is a member of the Livestock and Horticulture Subcommittee; and Education and the Workforce, where he is a member of the Education Reform and 21st Century Competitiveness Subcommittees. |

Randy is the former State Chairman of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and was vice chairman of the National Conference of State Legislatures' (NCSL) Wine Industry Task Force.
Admitted to the New York Bar in 1970, Randy practiced law in Bath, New York until January of 2005. He is currently a member in good standing of the New York State and Steuben County Bar Associations. He is also a member of the American Arbitration Association. Randy's career has included posts as Attorney for several municipalities, including Steuben County. His credentials also include practice before the United States Supreme Court. |

Randy was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1980 and served there until being elected to the State Senate in 1986. In the Senate, Randy served as Assistant Majority Leader from 1995 to 2004. He also served as Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture from 1987 to 1999 when he was appointed Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Education. He served as Chairman of the Education Committee until 2003 when he was appointed Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Transportation.
He is President of the Board of Directors of the Reginald Wood Scouting Memorial and an immediate past member of the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Manufacturing and Technology.
